C-Section Birth Stories: Meisha Daniels
1. Please share the circumstances that led to your c-section birth(s):
My son was weighing pretty big around 32 weeks. My doctor sent me for an ultrasound at the last trimester and the baby was weighing in at 8 pounds at 36 weeks. Immediately, they scheduled me for a c-section on June 1, 2020. Leading up to my delivery, I was so nervous and anxious. I started dilating a week before my surgery.
2. What surprised you the most about having a c-section?:
The moment I walked into the operating room, I realized that there was no turning back now, the baby is coming and I’m about to experience major surgery. So much was going through my head - so much fear and the “what-if” thoughts. But I was surprised how fast it all happened. The procedure didn’t take long at all and I felt like I heard my doctor say "Here he is!" as soon as I got on the table.
3. What kind of support do you feel you received (from friends, family, healthcare team) after your c-section(s)?:
My support team was amazing. My fiancé was there for me every step of the way! Due to the pandemic, we were only allowed to have us at the hospital and that will be a moment I will always cherish. He went over and beyond to make sure our baby and I were ok.
4. What’s your #1 piece of advice/encouragement for a new c-section mom?:
You have given birth in a STRONG way! Realize your strength and take it easy and please don’t overdo it. I want them to know you will heal, listen to your body, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. You will get through it.
5. How do you believe having a c-section birth(s) made you stronger?:
Wow, l have noticed my strength so much since the c-section. Taking care of my son and myself at the same time is definitely work. I’m actually doing it - getting the job done no matter if I’m in a little pain or extremely tired. I’m getting through it.
